Worry About Today’s Peace – Wise Words Wednesday

Worry about today's peace

Peace. Each day we look, hope, and pray for peace in our lives.

What do we do right after we wish for peace? We worry about all the things that are disturbing our peace. There seems to be a plethora of disturbances in the peace at our home right now so I thought, “Worrying doesn’t take away tomorrow’s troubles. It takes away today’s peace,” was a perfect quote for this Wise Words Wednesday.

As hubby and I have attempted to plan a small vacation, my mind has been consumed by worry over the trip. What is wrong with me? I am planning a vacation. Vacation is supposed to be a stress reducer, but I am letting worry over details I cannot control consume me. It is definitely taking away from today’s peace. I need a vacation from worry.

My children are in a healthy routine of sibling conflict. At this point in the summer, most siblings are in a constant state of “I’m telling Mom.” My children’s inability to get along has me worrying about my success as a parent. That worry prevents me from finding the humor in the boys calling each other a “Tootie McTootieson.” I just need to make peace with the fact that they are going to fight, no matter how many toys, TV channels, or games they have.

Adding to my worry are changes coming for our farming operation. Scary changes. The potential for cut backs and added regulations keeps hubby and I up at night. Those potential changes can’t keep us from doing our jobs though; they have to motivate us to celebrate our current successes. We can’t let worry take away from the peace made by a job well done.

If you find worry robbing you of peace daily, work past that frustration or doubt. Give positive attention to the good going on around you. When you can’t change something, don’t let it change your outlook. Detach yourself from the thoughts and situations that make you uneasy. Create opportunities for peace through the joy you find and the confidence you share. Don’t forget to give this month’s Intentergy Challenge: Weed Out the Negativity a try. 🙂

P.S. If my children ever ask, Tootie McTootieson is a fine name and they should be proud to hold that title.

  1. Very positive post Melanie. To me there are two forms of worry; one is healthy and the other robs you of positivity. The former makes sure we aren’t going to do anything dumb; entirely natural and probably a subconscious survival trait. The conscious one, however, can be a right beast; enter stress, panic, anxiety and more. This is the one we must recognise early and allow the higher executive brain function to override with the choice word NO. Then turn to the positives like you say. That default humbug mind-set is terrible for not letting go of worries.

    Hope all is well 🙂

    1. Gary, your point about two types of worry is excellent. Worry is definitely a survival mechanism but can also kill our motivation. All a well here. I hope you are rocking life like the rock star you are.

      1. I try and have perspectives on psychological traits because most of them have a real reason to be there. It just often we end up overthinking and not using them (forgotten?) why they are at play. Life has been tough mojo wise recently, but things are beginning to look up again now thank you 🙂
