While waiting for my son’s practice to end, I chatted with another gym mom and her little girl. I asked the little girl about her day, and she told me she played at school and came to practice with her sister. When she inquired about my day, I told her I spent the whole time trying to make turkeys’ dreams come true.
She gave me an incredulous look and asked why I would do that. I told her that I was a turkey farmer. Then she asked, “What do turkeys dream about?”
Well, that was a stumper!
I told her I wasn’t sure what they dream about because no turkey had ever told me his dreams.
She told me I was silly because turkeys don’t talk.
What I should have admitted to her was that I had never asked a turkey what his dreams were…
Now I know asking a turkey to tell about his dreams makes as much sense as asking him to sign his name on a dotted line, but there is something behind the idea of seeking out what others aspire to become or to acquire.
In drafting this post, I researched to see if scientists have discovered whether or not turkeys do dream. There was no conclusive information on any reliable source about turkey dreams, but I did find one article by Julie Cappiello called “11 Facts about Chickens” that did support the idea that chickens experience rapid eye movement or REM cycles when they sleep and therefore do dream (2022). I don’t know if that helps answer the turkey dream question, but now I want to find a chicken and ask her what she dreams about.

While we recognize that turkeys need temperature control, safety from predators, food, water, and quality air, we rarely view them as creatures who have goals or aspirations.
Do we do the same for the people around us?
Do we ever wonder, “What are they dreaming about?”
Do we ask, “Can I help make their dreams come true?”
Wouldn’t it be terrific if we found ways to help others realize their dreams?
While the idea that we can be dream-achievers may seem as foreign as translating the fantasies of turkeys, the notion of talking to others about our goals is completely within our grasp. If inquiring about what others wish for is too scary, start with yourself.
What are you dreaming of doing? Seeing? Learning? Experiencing?
What do you need to make those dreams realities?
If we never ask, we will never know how far we can go.
Today’s Intentergy challenge has nothing to do with poultry but everything to do with putting energy and purpose into identifying what it is you or those around you seek most to accomplish. Be dreamers and become successful at making realities that are rooted in fulfilling wishes. Ask the question, “What are your dreams?” Find ways to make it more than turkey talk and let those ambitions take flight.

P.S. Turkeys look at you like you are crazy when you ask what they dream about.
P.P.S. What are you dreaming about?
