Growin’ Green Grass

Growin’ Green Grass

“The grass is greener where you water it.”

Growin Green Grass (5)1.jpg

As the perpetual optimist, this quote is ideal for my blogging pursuits, but it also makes me think of the not-so-green times.

Yes, happiness rained down equals greater (a.k.a. greener) times but what about the times when tears rain down? Or when the fertilizer gets too deep?

“The grass is greener where you water it.”

Dance in the rain or say a prayer of thanksgiving for the multitude of poo. The rain and refuse serve as perfect precipitation for appreciation of the good times. Let your happiness be found in memories and knowing that opportunities to get past your current situation are there to bring you cheer.

So so in the words of JoDee Messina, “Bring on the rain.”

“The grass is greener where you water it.”

…like your hair is on fire

…like your hair is on fire

Hair is on Fire

I have heard coaches tell their players to play like their hair is on fire and directors tell performers to sing like their hair is on fire. Often teachers are challenged to teach like their hair is on fire.

Now I am writing like my hair is on fire for one reason and one reason only.

I don’t want to let myself down.

In the last two months I have felt great pride in sharing daily insights and quotes. Some how I let today slip past without penning one single idea. 😦

So here it is. My message today is more of a wish. I wish for everyone who reads Continue reading “…like your hair is on fire”

Quote Challenge – Day #2

Disney films have so much to teach us. It is the simplest messages that have the greatest impact, but I really relate to old Rafiki and his walking stick philosophy.

Cracked but not Broken

Week of Wise Words

“One small crack does not mean that you are broken, it means that you were put to the test and you didn’t fall apart.” – Linda Poindexter

cracked but not brokenAll too often we find ourselves fixated on a flaw or mistake. Our imperfections play an important role in what defines us.

If you have suffered and survived, you are a survivor. If you have loved and lost, you are a lover. If you have crashed but risen again, you are now resilient. If you have burned spaghetti noodles, you are not allowed in my kitchen. Just kidding. You are now an experienced take-out artist. Continue reading “Cracked but not Broken”

Don’t Set Yourself on Fire

Week of Wise Words

“You are not required to set yourself on fire to keep other people warm.” – Unknown (but really, really wise person)

Don't Set Yourself on Fire image

Don’t set yourself on fire.

This sounds like common sense. Common sense is not always common, and, often in our attempts to help others, we overlook what we know to be right and fail to avoid the flames of over-extending ourselves.

(Most people who know me are laughing out loud right now because I am the QUEEN of over-extending. I’m working on that. 🙂 )

“You are not required to set yourself on fire to keep other people warm.”

The message of Intentergy is to always put your best effort into your actions. Continue reading “Don’t Set Yourself on Fire”

Hello, YOU!

Week of Wise Words

Hello, YOU!

Hello YOU handshake

“Be the type of person you want to meet” – Unknown (but wise person)

The person we all want to meet is approachable and considerate. They are honest. They are dependable. They are funny, thoughtful, and above all they care.

Do a quick scan of yourself and your demeanor. Are you approachable? Honest? Dependable? Caring? What about those whom you surround yourself with? Are they who you want to be associated with?

“Be the type of person you want to meet.”

Today take inventory of your approachability.

You may find that there are aspects of your approachability that are lacking. Work on beefing them up. This might mean you have to change your surroundings a bit. Continue reading “Hello, YOU!”

Gift Ideas from Picaso

Week of Wise Words

“The Meaning of life is to find your gift. The purpose of life is to give it away.”  – Pablo Picaso

Life's gift (4).JPG

Pablo Picaso gifted the world with amazing creativity and perspective through his art work. Even if we are not artists, like Mr. Picaso, we all possess a special talent or ability. Our job is to figure out the best way to share it with the world.

Don’t cutting off your ear in your attempts to find the best way to serve your fellow man, but do give in a way that is beyond your normal efforts.

“The meaning of life is to find your gift. The purpose of life is to give it away.”

If you possess strong organizational skills, volunteer at a local food pantry or Continue reading “Gift Ideas from Picaso”

Without Preaching

Week of Wise Words

Without Preaching

“One filled with joy preaches without preaching.” – Mother Theresa

Frequently I find myself preaching to my students the values and lessons that are glaringly missing from their life experiences.

After my mini life-lessons, I often wonder if it was my place to say those words. Then I remind myself that no one else had taught it to them thus far, so I was probably called to preach that particular lesson. Then I have to ask myself, “Do I want to be a preacher?”

“One filled with joy preaches without preaching.” Continue reading “Without Preaching”
