You’ve Always had the Power, my dear

You’ve always had the power, my dear.

You have always had the power

“You’ve always had the power, my dear; you just had to learn it for yourself.” – Glenda (“Wizard of Oz”)

Change is HARD.

We all find ourselves in situations where change must occur, but we also find that change is the hardest part of moving past our circumstances.

For the last few years I have found myself in a state of constant frustration. Something had to give or my frustration was going to get the better of me. I was either going to melt down or experience an epic fail. With the support of my husband and closest confidants, I made the ultimate decision that I have to step away from full-time teaching. Running a mile – some day

Running a mile – some day

mile running.jpg

Recently one of my students said he would give my blog a try, but would really like if I wrote about running. Well, Cody, now is as good time as any.

To summarize my personal running history, I ran a lot for a while (during separate intervals of my life). I ran some cross country in high school, did some recreational running in college and some Continue reading “Running a mile – some day”

Gray Bath Water

Gray Bath Water

Gray bath water.jpg

After a long hard evening of swinging, sliding, climbing, and digging in the pea gravel of the playground and ball park, my kids are filthy. Happy, but filthy.

The first thing we do when we get home from the ball park is run the bath water and watch the grimy goblins turn back into my children.

Their transformation results in sweet-smelling, soft, and cuddly snuggle buddies and Continue reading “Gray Bath Water”

Drinking from funny mugs

Drinking from funny mugs

funny coffee mugs.JPG

Anytime you can drink from a mug or cup that makes you smile, it makes the beverage much more enjoyable.

I LOVE my “I drink coffee for your protection” mug because it is so true. Coffee is definitely my go-go juice. When I drink from that mug, I feel like I have fully warned the day of my power and my willingness to protect those around me from the havoc I could cause.

My hope for you is that you have a favorite mug or cup to make your drinks extra delicious. Find pleasure in something as simple a smiley face straw or a cobalt blue wine goblet.

Enjoy having something that is uniquely you and offer a signal to your day that you are ready to take it all in.

Get your energy from your glorious glass and you will find a more positive perspective awaits.

Please share a picture of your favorite mug, cup, glass, or tumbler and add some joy to this post!

Taking candy from your babies

Taking candy from your babies

stolen candy.jpg

All moms and dad do it. We sneak into our precious little one’s Easter baskets and Halloween bags and slip out a holiday sweet. We do this on the sly knowing they will never notice ONE little piece missing.

Okay, I know stealing is a sin and very unethical, but I think there are healthy benefits to stealing candy from our own babies. Continue reading “Taking candy from your babies”

No one curses the sky for the clouds

No one curses the sky for the clouds.

Sunday I had the terrific opportunity to attend a hot yoga class with my friend Jessie. As the yoga instructor was encouraging us to settle our thoughts, she reminded us that it is natural for our minds to race. She told us to be kind to ourselves as we rein in our “monkey minds,” consoling us with the idea that, “No one curses the sky for the clouds. Your thoughts are like Continue reading “No one curses the sky for the clouds”

Growin’ Green Grass

Growin’ Green Grass

“The grass is greener where you water it.”

Growin Green Grass (5)1.jpg

As the perpetual optimist, this quote is ideal for my blogging pursuits, but it also makes me think of the not-so-green times.

Yes, happiness rained down equals greater (a.k.a. greener) times but what about the times when tears rain down? Or when the fertilizer gets too deep?

“The grass is greener where you water it.”

Dance in the rain or say a prayer of thanksgiving for the multitude of poo. The rain and refuse serve as perfect precipitation for appreciation of the good times. Let your happiness be found in memories and knowing that opportunities to get past your current situation are there to bring you cheer.

So so in the words of JoDee Messina, “Bring on the rain.”

“The grass is greener where you water it.”

…like your hair is on fire

…like your hair is on fire

Hair is on Fire

I have heard coaches tell their players to play like their hair is on fire and directors tell performers to sing like their hair is on fire. Often teachers are challenged to teach like their hair is on fire.

Now I am writing like my hair is on fire for one reason and one reason only.

I don’t want to let myself down.

In the last two months I have felt great pride in sharing daily insights and quotes. Some how I let today slip past without penning one single idea. 😦

So here it is. My message today is more of a wish. I wish for everyone who reads Continue reading “…like your hair is on fire”

Literature is the ultimate tool (second only to experience) in teaching lessons. This quote from Professor Dumbledore hangs in my classroom for everyone to see. I hope it adds light to your day.

Quote Challenge – Day #2

Disney films have so much to teach us. It is the simplest messages that have the greatest impact, but I really relate to old Rafiki and his walking stick philosophy.
